Meet Our Musicians--Band Member Bios

Name: Karen Looney

Instrument: Clarinet, Flute, or Alto Saxophone

Uniform Selection: TBD

Karen Looney is a new member of the NCSMFGB, and willing to chip in where needed on clarinet, flute or alto saxophone.
Karen has been playing music since the 3rd grade and comes from a long line of musicians. Her father was a high school band director in Dallas, TX, who worked for Selmer and played in the symphony. Her grandmother taught piano and was an artist. Ari, her son, is also carrying on the family music tradition playing bass, guitar and piano. 

She has hopped on board after not playing for 20 years. In high school, Karen played clarinet in concert band, saxophone in marching/jazz bands, and all 3 horns for theater orchestra. She continued playing in theater, a big band and other local church/shipyard groups in the Newport News, VA area after college graduation, while working at NASA Langley Research Center. She has also made theater costumes off and on through the year. Her son, Ari, was in theater at Boulder High and Center Stage.
Karen has lived in Colorado for 21 years and is currently working as a Software Quality Engineer at the CU-Laboratory Atmospheric and Space Physics. On Sundays she has a acupuncture practice and is an active member of the Colorado Acuptuncture Medical Reserve Corps. (BSEE, MAc, LAc)
