Name: Hayley Parker
Hayley Parker, also known as “The Musical Muppet,” switches gears when she plays flute for the Niwot Semi-Marching Free Grange Band. The former guitarist for Saved By Ruin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK_-70X0Pvw) began playing flute in fifth grade at Niwot Elementary School. “It suddenly occurred to me that I wanted to play the flute,” she explains.
In addition to flute and guitar, Hayley also plays alto sax, bass guitar, ukulele and triangle. She continued playing music throughout high school in the Niwot High Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band and Symphonic Band. She also spent a year at Hawaii Pacific University where she performed in the Pep/Jazz Band.
Fortunately, she came back to Colorado, where she has lived the rest of her life, and joined the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band. “I never quit, music is my thing.”
At her day job, the Niwot resident works for Happy Hounds as a dog daycare supervisor. But she is also pursuing her professional music interests. “I am currently in the process of starting a ‘geek punk’ band.” Hayley also writes fantasy novels in her spare time.
Her favorite song? “You can't make me pick one! Okay, Green Day’s Minority because it is amazingly awesome.”Her favorite band experience? “I always enjoy playing in the parades, because they have such a fun atmosphere and we get to play for a big portion of the community, even if we have some of the shortest parades ever.”
