Meet Our Musicians--Band Member Bios
Name: Doug Miller
Uniform Selection--at one time or another:
Doug Miller, affectionately known as “Satch” in high school, has lived in Colorado for the past 24 years. He grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey and began playing trumpet when he was 10 years old, mainly because “it was a good thing to do in elementary school.”
Doug played trumpet in high school, and continued to play opportunities arose, including the Longmont Community Band. He not only plays trumpet for the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band, but also serves as music librarian.
Recently, Doug convinced the Mountain View Fire Department to become a sponsor of the band, including use of a large trailer for parades.
In his former life, Doug was a systems engineer for IBM and Lockheed Martin. Now that he’s retired, he seems to be busier than ever. He’s a member of the Denver Brass Board of Directors, and volunteers for many organizations in the community. “There is lots of opportunity for life left after retirement,” he said. His favorite marching band experiences were the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City; the opening and closing of the New York World’s Fair, including the TV special hosted by Lorne Greene; and playing for the NY Giants and New York Jets football games.
